The Ultimate Rules For a Blissful Life

How often do you play by the rules?

My son believes that the real test of integrity is giving yourself a penalty shot while playing a round of golf alone. No one is watching but you.

In essence calling a penalty on yourself is the definition of true nobility because it’s not about being better than anyone else; it’s about being better than you use to be. You are not dominated by your ego’s demands to accomplish and triumph.

I thought about playing by the rules as I read through the weekend newspapers. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and by the number of crimes reported it seems no one believes in playing by the rules anymore. From the ranks of the privileged and elite like Bernie Madoff to a man wearing a skeleton facemask who attempted to rob a car wash with a toy gun, no one is immune. All that matters is “what’s in it for me.”

I have to wonder how will we survive times of crisis if it’s only about “me.” Inevitably there has to be a collective agreement if only on a subconscious level that we are all going to play by the rules. But what exactly are these so-called rules?

Society demands certain rules to protect us but there are deeper universal laws that keep us in harmony with our better selves. These laws expect we will always call a penalty when necessary.

The law of karma is the most important law. The purpose of this law is to attract harmony and balance in your life. Through your intentions, thoughts, emotions, words and deeds you create karma. You must decide what lessons you need to learn in this life.

The law of wisdom is knowing what you have the power to change and what you don’t. Through this wisdom every karmic issue will be resolved.

The law of evolution is the only way to gain wisdom. This law means you must conquer the demands of your ego and emotions by learning from your mistakes. It’s important to know that a lesson not learned is a lesson that is repeated.

Renovating Your Life

I’m tempted to put up orange cones and lines of yellow tape up around my life. Right now I’m under construction. My life is headed for changes many of those I don’t want. Aside from the emotional demolitions I’m dealing with some physical ones as well. My husband and I are currently in the process of remodeling our bathroom. The project is a long awaited one but unfortunately it’s coming at a most emotionally inconvenient time for me.

So I’m wondering is life ever convenient?

I believe the answer is no because our human brains are wired for comfort. We work around complex ideas by taking insubstantial data and jumping to conclusions. We take meaning only from the familiar patterns that we see, and we only ever see part of any picture. That’s really my problem right now. I only see part of the picture. I’m making assumptions for the future mostly based on my own comfort level.

My oldest daughter is planning a big move. I shouldn’t say plan because it’s her lack of a real plan that’s causing me the most distress. She’s willing to take a risk with her future. She’s taking this without much caution. At the same time my youngest daughter is planning a smaller move, one that seems to my perspective unnecessary and financially costly. So I trouble myself with worry about these outcomes and this anxiety is tapping my energy for everything else right now. And the biggest everything else is the messy tearing apart of our bathroom, right down to the studs.

I feel like I’m being torn down right to the studs too. Perhaps it’s as necessary as my bathroom, something that had to be done but was delayed for so long. The ancient sage Pantanjali wrote a book of wisdom called the Yoga Sutra two thousand years ago. I doubt he ever had to remodel a bathroom while trying to persuade his loved ones from taking an uncertain path.

Finding Our Real Spiritual Identity

If we can understand this information properly or deeply enough, we would not only understand our true spiritual identity, but also see the spiritual unity we share with all other beings. The essence of this perception has been related in the ancient Vedic texts, as we find in the Svetasvatara Upanishad (6.11) which states, “He is the one God hidden in all beings, all pervading, the self within all beings, watching over all worlds, dwelling in all beings, the witness, the perceiver.” If one can truly understand this and become enlightened in this way, he will see that he is a part of the Supreme Reality and realize his union with all beings. Within that enlightenment one can reach Divine Love. This love is based on the spiritual oneness and harmony between all beings, which is sublime. It is a source of spiritual bliss. It is a love based not on bodily relations or mutual attraction, but it is based on being one in spirit, beyond the temporary nature of the body. This is the love for which everyone searches, from which springs forth peace, harmony, and unity, of which all other kinds of love are mere reflections.

This state of being is reached only through spirituality. Therefore, a life without spirituality is a life incomplete. All have the need to fill their souls with spirituality, the presence of God, in order to feel fullness, peace, contentment, and unity.

Imagine a scientist so brilliant that he “discovered” the mathematical formula for the creation, preservation and dissolution of the universe.

Imagine that this brilliant scientist transposed this wonderful formula into a geometrical pattern. The pattern is such an accurate picture of the creation formula that every time the scientist looks at it he experiences the creation itself.

In fact, the geometrical pattern representing the creation is so accurate that it is capable of generating a tremendous force which serves to protect and make prosperous all those who are drawn to it. And to those who meditate upon its unique design, the so-called “mysteries” of the universe are revealed.

This is not a science fiction story. The brilliant scientists who “discovered” the creation formula are the rishis of ancient India. Because of their lofty meditations, they were able to “see” the truths of the universe. These truths the rishis attempted to render into mantra yantra (visual patterns), and so that they would be preserved for the benefit of mankind throughout the ages.

Today the pattern of the creation formula – the Sri Chakra – remains the most powerful force in the world for the peace and upliftment of mankind. The Supreme Absolute in the form of Mother has given birth to the universe and provides for the prosperity and enlightenment of Her children with loving compassion.

Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or immaterial reality an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of their being; or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.” Spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer and contemplation, are intended to develop an individual’s inner life such practices often lead to an experience of connectedness with a larger reality, yielding a more comprehensive self; with other individuals or the human community with nature or the cosmos; or with the divine realm.
